  1. Take the time to define your needs. This is very important for both you and Estate Domestics, of course we realize that as you move along in your search needs may change, however a solid foundation is the best way to get started.

  2. When interviewing, whether on the phone or in person, have a plan and take the time to write down the questions you would like to know. Please see our Helpful Hints for a Successful Interview.

  3. Once you have narrowed down your choice please take the time to contact their references. Estate Domestics has already provided you with references but you may have questions that are specific to your needs that we may not have thought of.

  4. Write a work agreement. Estate Domestics will be happy to assist you with this. We strongly encourage a work agreement as it ensures a clear understanding of the job responsibilities, hours, compensation, benefits and vacations.

  5. During the first few days of employment, take the time to spend with your new employee to properly train them to work specifically with your family. This is critical to a successful working relationship, many future problems can be avoided by taking the time to give proper training and set the expectations at the beginning of employment. You will also want to make sure your new employee has received the following:

      • Family Schedule of events
      • A medical Consent for emergencies
      • An Emergency Contact List
      • Keys to the house
      • Assign a specific code to the Alarm system and/or to the garage.

  6. Mark your calendar for at least once a quarter to meet with your employee to go over any concerns and give praises and otherwise keep an open line of communication with your employee. It is also wise to plan on an annual review to re-evaluate the job responsibilities and then to give an annual raise and/or bonus.
