  • Make sure your application is complete and spell checked.
  • Create a personal portfolio complete with an introductory letter, your resume, letters of reference and other work references such as educational background information and any other certificates of achievements. Estate Domestics will present this portfolio to potential families concealing any personal information.
  • Dress appropriately for both your interview with the agency and the family.
  • Be punctual!! If you find that you are going to be late to your interview due to unforeseen circumstances out of your control, be sure to call Estate Domestics and the family , as you are graded on punctuality.
  • Stay in contact with Estate Domestics during your interview process and after you have been placed.
For a Successful Interview
  • Be on time!! Plan to arrive 10 minutes early to allow for unexpected delays.
  • Dress Appropriately. First impressions are extremely important and can determine the course of the interview.
  • Pay attention to personal hygiene and grooming. Avoid wearing strong perfumes and heavy make-up.
  • Bring portfolio with you for the family. Estate Domestics will also provide the family with a copy but you should take one to make sure that have one in hand during the interview. Be sure to include a pen and paper for note taking.
  • Listen carefully to the questions the family asks and answer them appropriately. Be positive and realistic about your skills and what you are capable of. Highlight your skills in relation to the demands of the position.
  • Never speak about a past employer in a negative manner.
  • Always maintain eye contact with your interviewer.
  • Wait until the appropriate time to ask your own questions. Estate Domestics suggests some of the following:
    1. What are the job responsibilities? Estate Domestics has provided you already with what we know about the job, however that does not mean that it won’t change or evolve during the interview process.
    2. What are the hours? Will there be nights or weekends expected?
    3. Will the family be willing to sign a work agreement? Estate Domestics will negotiate your salary and any other benefits on your behalf so we discourage you from discussing these issues directly with the family during your interview.
    4. If you are interviewing to be a Nanny, ask what the families discipline policy is. You need to make sure you are able to work within the family’s practices.
    5. Ask the family if they will be providing a car for work use? If not, will they reimburse your mileage for use of your car for business use.
    6. Will you be required to wear a uniform? If so, will they provide that to you?
    7. Will you be expected to travel with the family on vacations and other trips?
    8. Address the need for open communication and the desire to set up regular meetings to review job performance and any other issues that may arise.
